Our trainers: Why did you decide to compete? Part 1
What made you want to compete in the first place?
I decided to compete because I’ve always admired the sport and how much dedication and work goes into it.
However, being someone who has PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) I honestly never thought it would be achievable for me too. I thought about it for a long, long time before I finally decided that I wanted to do it, even if to only prove to myself that I could accomplish it even with PCOS. It takes a lot to get down to that level of leanness and not just physically but also mentally.
Having a goal for me is the one thing that will push me past my comfort zone in order to educate myself and grow as a person but mostly as a trainer. That’s what I find great about being a personal trainer…there’s always something new to research or learn about and there’s always new research coming out.
Did you think you’d achieve what you set out to achieve?
Everything is achievable if you put your mind to it, even if there are doubts along the way and bumps. Results aren’t linear for anyone's fitness journey. Weight loss isn’t just a straight line down on the scales. Weight will fluctuate, you will have highs and lows but if you want results you must stay consistent especially when things start getting tough.
It’s the same for competition prep and I feel like now I’ve been through a weight loss programme again I can be more empathetic to my clients going through a similar journey of weight loss.
